The BR Mk.1 design was the first standard coach design for British Railways, with the production build running from 1951 until the mid 1960s, replacing thousands of elderly and worn-out coaches built before WW2. A simple and robust design, hundreds of Mk.1 coaches remain in passenger service on todays heritage railways.
